Dan Smithson is a character and the tritagonist from the film Species. He is an empath. 

Biography

Dan Smithson is in his session with Dr. Victoria Roth when a government agent knocks on the door and asks for him, all which Dan predicted. Dan is asked to be part of the team to track down an experiment in alien origin due to his emphatic abilities. His main task is to interpret the emotions behind Sil's actions.

When Laura Baker and Preston Lennox are trapped in the lab where they tested alien DNA, Dan eventually pushed Xavier Fitch out of the way so that Stephen Arden could open the door and let them out before the quarantine protocol burn.

During the raid in the Id club. Dan wanders outside sensing something, and is confronted by Sil. Dan calls for others while Sil makes her getaway, which leads to her apparent death in a car crash.

While celebrating the end of the mission, Dan is given alcohol by Arden, even though Dan first rejected the offer, as he don't drink. After Laura and Press leave, and Arden wants to hit on some women, Dan calls it a night and returns to his room. While resting he sees visions of Sil and Arden. He goes to Arden's door and hears them. Dan then wakes Preston and Laura and tells them that Sil is alive. They break into Arden's room finding him dead. They then chase Sil into tunnels where Dan is asked to located Sil, but he has trouble doing so. Dan finds a crack in a wall leading to caves. While exploring the caves Dan finds Sil's Son and when it attacks him he blasts it with a flamethrower and it falls into the tar pit. Dan himself is hanging onto the ledge almost falling in. Press and Laura manage to reach him and are about to pull him up when Sil grabs Dan's leg. Press loads an explosive round and blasts Sil's head apart, they then pull Dan up.
