The Dream Male is an alien creature that Sil dreams about several times in the first film.
History[]
Every time he's seen, he engages in intercourse with Sil, even penetrating her once with an appendage that appeared to be growing from behind his head, with Sil willingly allowing this action to occur. Sil later comes to believe that her dreams with the male are her alien side's attempts to tell her who she is and what she must do.
Trivia[]
- The Dream Male is unique for being only a figment of Sil's subconscious and not an actual character. However, his appearance is the actual male form of her species, as revealed in Human Race through Kal.
- Sil's dream marks the very first time a male hybrid is seen in the Species series. Kal is the first male adult protagonist and subject of hunting in the franchise.
- Kal's facial design is closer to a human skull. The original Xenomorph head design created by H. R. Giger similarly resembled a human skull under a scalp, which gradually faded in the Alien franchise.
- An early draft of Species had Preston actually morphing into the hybrid in Sil's sex dream. In the final movie, Preston and the male hybrid appear in separate takes in her dream.
- The Dream Male and Kal's appearance differ from Patrick's hybrid forms, both bipedal and quadrupedal. This leaves room for a possibility that the alien DNA that infected Patrick and disseminated life on Mars is of a different species, not the same sent to SETI. However, it could be that Species II simply retconned the alien look, as did Species III. And H.R. Giger mentioned that he designed Patrick's bipedal form as the male version of Sil.
